How the Time Card Calculator helps
Adding up a week of clock-in and clock-out times by hand is slow and error-prone, especially with lunch breaks, shifts that cross midnight and overtime rules. Enter each day's start and end time and unpaid break, and the calculator returns total hours in both hours:minutes and decimal form, splits regular and overtime hours and works out gross pay.
Method
Hours per day = end time − start time − unpaid break. If the end time is earlier than the start time, 24 hours are added because the shift ended the next day. Weekly overtime is the time above the weekly limit within each 7-day week; daily overtime is the time above the daily limit on each day. Pay = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × multiplier.
Example
Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week. Add a Saturday shift from 22:00 to 04:00 and you get 46 hours, of which 6 are overtime. At $20 an hour with time and a half, gross pay is $980.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours. The result panel shows both formats.
Does it handle night shifts?
Yes. If a shift ends after midnight, simply enter the end time; the calculator recognises it as the following day.
Which overtime rule applies to me?
It depends on your country, contract or collective agreement. Many US employers use a 40-hour weekly limit; elsewhere daily limits or agreement-specific rules are common. Check your local rules.
Gross pay before tax and deductions. Overtime law differs by country and contract; this tool does not apply statutory rules automatically.
